Riding the Rainbow

FAQ

Through our platform you can not only take and donate items, establish new connections, share experiences, and give advice. Beyond the donation, your support and advice can be very important for people who had to leave their homes and start a new life in a new country.

I want to donate an item. Do I have to disclose my address?
No, you don’t have to show your exact location. When you post an item, you will choose the approximate location for potential recipients. Once you are contacted, a dedicated and secure chat will allow you to  arrange for a mutually convenient  pick up location, for example, near your closest bus stop, park or wherever else you prefer.
Where should the meeting take place?

Safety is extremely important, not only because of the value of our donors and recipients, but for the broader long term success of the initiative. You are advised to arrange a meeting in the places suggested in response to the first question. Choose places that are accessible to all parties, logistically and in light of any physical limitations. We urge all participants to choose locations where both parties feel comfortable and at ease. We do not encourage meeting in private spaces or disclosing private and personal information.

What do I do if there are any safety concerns before, during, or after a meeting?

We are a platform for positive change and solidarity, and we have vetting protocols firmly in place, however, there is a small possibility of our platform being misused and abused. If you are experiencing any form of harassment or inappropriate messaging via the app please block the user and report them immediately. If you feel unsafe during a meeting we remind you that you are not under any obligation to finalize the donation, take similar measures to the ones you would take in any other situation- your safety always comes first! Any issues should be promptly reported. Please make sure to report these issues so that the individual(s) in question is blocked from using our platform. We want to keep our app as safe and friendly as possible and maintain it as a force for good.

How can I contribute to the project?

There are many ways you can help us, find out how on this page

Do we give bikes or other items to adults?

No, we only focus on children and youth up to 18 years old.

I’m less than 18 years old. Can I apply directly?

No, please ask your parent or authorized guardian or organization taking care of you, to apply on your behalf.

I’m a refugee but have not received official status. What should I do?

As long as you have applied for the status, you can register on our website and receive items.

If I received a broken item, or a donated item was broken just right after receiving it, what should I do?

This depends on the extent of the damage, if it is repairable you can ask our volunteers to help. Please follow our Facebook or Instagram page and you will find all the information on how to connect to volunteers. If an item has been advertised using misleading photos, and/ or is severely damaged upon donation please report this via the app immediately.

Do I have to pay for the items?

No. All items are given away for free and you should never ask or be asked to provide any form of compensation. If you want to contribute to the initiative you are welcome to do so by making a donation and help us maintain the app, even a small contribution would have a big impact

What will I do with the received item(s) when I return to my home country?

You can keep it or you can experience the joy of giving first-hand and donate it again on this platform.

I cannot access my location or upload the picture? Can you help?

When you download the app, you will be requested to allow access to your photos and locations. If you have inadvertently denied that, just go to dettings. In order to upload the photo you need to go to settings, then look for the app Riding the Rainbow and allow access to camera and location while using the app.

How many items can I take for my kids?

We are a small but growing initiative, unfortunately, this means that in order to make a difference to as many people as possible  we do have to limit the number of donations per family, ideally to one item per child. You may receive up to 5 items per year. But if you have already received 5 items over the course of a year, you can send us a message describing your situation. We are open to accommodate different family arrangements and exceptional circumstances as far as possible.

My organization is supporting refugees and I also need items to equip a refugee camp, orphanage or support an activity. How can I get involved?

We would love to work with you. After a verification, we may create an account for you so you can source your items directly on the app. Please contact us.

Any further question, do not hesitate to reach out to us.

How does your platform ensure that the items donated are reaching genuine refugees, and how is it different from other platforms or similar online marketplaces?
Verifying the refugee status of users presents a complex challenge, and we aim to strike a balance without resorting to intrusive vetting procedures. Our approach focuses on active collaboration with established refugee networks and organizations, ensuring that our outreach is sensitive and respectful.
